About Kim’s Writings

An antique typewriter with round keys on a dark wooden surface.

My work has developed over nearly 40 years of practice and is taking shape now across books, field guides, and ongoing more personal writing in articles and on Substack (see the Newsletters section below).

Together, my writing explores how we work with conflict, attention, and what we carry from one moment to the next, from one table to the next.

Books & Workbooks

My forthcoming publications include the foundational book, At the Tables of LIfe: Contemplative Practices for Presence, Reflection, and Letting Go

and an accompanying workbook, At the Tables of Life: A Workbook for the Contemplative Practices

The Messy Middle

A more personal newsletter modeling the second and third movements of reflection and release or letting go. These essays discuss my practices over time, transitions in life, changes across the tables of my own life, and the experience of living through the messy middle of life. For now, you can read these on Substack, as I am in the process of gradually bringing my writing home to this living library.

Practice Presence

“Practice Presence” is my newest newsletter of short reflections to model the first movement of the framework, presence. These reflections are on practicing in ordinary life, in moments of conflict, using various contemplative practices. These essays also model how we process and release the “emotional residue” that work and life leaves with us. Read the first essay in this newsletter series in my Blog at the link below.

Decoding Food Labels

A separate writing project focused on helping consumers understand and interpret food labels more clearly. This work is now expending to include secular mindfulness elements as well.

I also offer this material in the form of a free workshop to selected schools, churches, and other civic organizations. Contact me for for more details.

FAQs

Where can I find essays on presence and reflection in everyday life?

You can find essays on presence and reflection in everyday life in the Writings and Essays sections of KimMilone.net. These writings explore meditation, mindfulness, ordinary life, aging, responsibility, conflict, food, attention, letting go, and the emotional residue we carry from one season of life to another.

The site is designed as a living library, which means selected essays, notes, letters, social media reflections, and book-related writings will gradually be gathered here over time. The writing is meant to be returned to, not simply scrolled past.

What kinds of writing are included in this living library?

This living library includes short notes, long-form essays, letters, book updates, reflection prompts, and writings on meditation, mindfulness, ordinary life, professional responsibility, food labels, conflict, grief, aging, and life review. Some pieces are brief invitations to pause. Others are longer reflections on how we meet the tables of life with presence, reflection, and letting go.

What makes you different?

I combine 40+ years of practicing meditation and mindfulness with 35+ years practicing law and ADR. I have also practiced in the Episcopal faith for 30+ years. I formulated the framework of Presence, Reflection, and Letting Go through my lived experineces in family, relationships, and work through the lens of my interfaith practices in Buddhism and Christianity.
