Welcome. I’m Kim Milone. This site is the home for my writing, meditation teaching, practices, books, and trainings.

I call it a living library because the work gathers over time. Here you will find notes, essays, letters, practices, field guides, and books for the seasons of life and for the attention each season asks of us.

The center of the work is a simple framework: Presence, Reflection, and Letting Go.

Simple, however, is not the same as easy.

This work is for people who are carrying responsibility, navigating change, moving through conflict or grief, entering midlife or later life, or looking for a more grounded way to practice in ordinary life. Some people arrive here through demanding work. Some arrive through meditation. Some arrive through writing, aging, food, family, loss, or the desire to begin again.

The image I return to again and again is the table. There are the literal tables of our lives: kitchen tables, conference tables, classroom tables, mediation tables, community tables, bedside tables, and folding tables set up wherever people gather. There are also the less visible tables: the table of memory, the table of responsibility, the table of grief, the table of repair, the table of decision, and the table of becoming.

How we show up at these tables determines what is possible.

This living library is one way of practicing how to show up with more steadiness, compassion, and care.

If you are new here, you do not need to understand the whole body of work before you begin. Start with what is asking for your attention now.

Visit Approach if you want to understand the framework of Presence, Reflection, and Letting Go, the tables metaphor, and the mindful life review process.

Visit Writings if you want notes, essays, letters, and reflections on ordinary life, responsibility, transition, conflict, food, practice, and what we carry from one season to the next.

Visit Practices if you want guided meditations, reflection prompts, mindful walking practices, book circles, and simple ways to return to presence in ordinary life.

Visit Books if you want to follow the development of At the Tables of Life, the accompanying workbook, and the field guides.

Visit Trainings if you are interested in inviting me to teach, speak, or offer a continuing education class or professional development program.

A Note About My Writing

A minimalist workspace with a laptop, mouse, and a potted plant on a white desk, illuminated by soft lighting.

My writing is gradually moving home to this site. I still share outward from time to time, but this living library and my letters to your inbox are the primary places where the work will gather going forward.

There are a few reasons for this. I find it difficult to post amid the noise of social media. That’s just me and my energy, which is much more suited for in person and live online small groups, long form writing like essays and books, and the reflective letters that I send to subscribers (it’s free). Mostly, I want my writing to have a home that can be returned to, searched, revised, and lived with over time. I will gradually sunset my social media presence as an archive and bring over the most meaningful posts in the form of “Notes” and selected newsletter posts in their original “Essay” form. I will also start sharing in my Notes and Essays more writings on the experience of being a writer and the path to publishing.

A Way to Begin, Again

Read one note.

Try one practice.

Receive one letter.

Let one breath, one sentence, or one moment of steadiness be enough for today.

Then keep going…

The coming back the next day and the next and the next is the key to building the “muscle” of mindfulness and meditation.

FAQs

What is KimMilone.net about?

KimMilone.net is the home for Kim Milone’s writing, meditation teaching, practices, books, and trainings. It is a living library for the seasons of life and for the attention each season asks of us.

The work centers on Presence, Reflection, and Letting Go as contemplative practices for ordinary life. It explores how we show up at the tables of life: family tables, work tables, conflict tables, grief tables, decision-making tables, and the inner tables where we return to ourselves.

What is a living library?

A living library is a website that gathers writing, practices, books, letters, and resources in one durable home. Instead of disappearing into a social media feed, the work can be returned to, searched, revised, and lived with over time.

Do I need to be Buddhist or Christian or religious in any way to use these practices?

No. You do not need to be Buddhist or Christian or religious in any way to use these practices. The practices on this site are offered in accessible language for people of many backgrounds and for people with no religious tradition at all.

The work is shaped by meditation, mindfulness, contemplative practice, and ordinary life. You are welcome to approach it as spiritual practice, reflective practice, nervous system support, writing practice, or simply as a way to meet your life with more steadiness and care.

How do I start using this site?

Begin with what is asking for your attention now. You might read one note, try one practice, receive one letter, or explore the approach behind Presence, Reflection, and Letting Go. You do not need to understand the whole living library before you begin.

A simple way to start is to pause and ask: What table of life am I sitting at right now? What am I carrying? What would help me meet this moment with more presence, reflection, or letting go?
